What I'm Working on Now
Let me start by saying what I don't do. I am not a genre-specific writer because I am not a genre-specific reader. I read what I like, which includes fantasy, historical fiction, science fiction, young adult, and middle grade. I read thrillers and dystopian novels, mysteries and contemporary fiction. I don't tend to read hard core romance or anything with vampires, werewolves, or zombies, so you won't see me write about them.I am a storyteller, and I write the kinds of stories that I like to read. A great story is a great story no matter where it is found. Neither stories nor writers should be constrained by artificial genre boundaries. I enjoy exercising my writing muscles by trying new things. For these reasons, my works range from historical novels to fantasy to science fiction to contemporary, and I think I have at least one thriller in me. All my writing is in the young adult or middle-grade age ranges because that is what I read the most.
So what am I up to?
I am wrapping up the Fantasy series Heirs of Anarwyn with Book VI, Legends.I've started a new spin-off fantasy adventure duology from the Archer of the Heathland series that focuses on Jack and Mara. Book 1, Scorpion is already published, and I have a draft of Book 2, Catacombs completed.
I have also started a new teen fantasy novel called Invisible, set in the 1980s.
My wife and I are writing a private eye series entitled the Shadow Walker Series, which delves into the exploits of Ethan Gray, an ex-Pinkerton agent who is haunted by a past tragedy that threatens to upend his life yet again.
I already finished a three-volume fantasy series, entitled Worlds of Light. It includes The Cleansing, The Rending, and The Unmaking.
My first Sci-Fi series, entitled The Ark Project, is now complete. It's a two-volume series with a prequel short story that explores what it means to be human: The Harvest, The Clone Paradox, and The Covenant Protocol.
The Archer of the Heathland series is now completed. The last volume launched in June of 2020. Intrigue, Deliverance, Betrayal, Vengeance, Chronicles, Windemere, Renegade, and Rook.
I have launched several teen/middle-grade stand-alone novels, including The Miserable Life of Bernie LeBaron, Somewhere in the Mist, Walls of Glass, and A Summer of Canoes.
Future projects will include a historical fantasy entitled King's Crypt and a teen fantasy entitled Serpent Ring
.
This should give you a flavor of what is coming, so stay tuned. A lot more is on the way.
Cheers,
James
